Was it 868 or 869 as Billy had a Left hand drive one as he had come from the Porsche which was LHD. He smashed the front end on the Manx of 86 I know that

Nice info, guys! I always wondered what happened to C84 RBD after the 86 National Breakdown. Does anyone know where it is now? I think I remember hearing that the engine in the Donegal-winning Metro was the same engine which had earlier packed in on the Manx, costing Jimmy McRae the Open Championship. Does that ring a bell with anyone or has my brain thrown a sparkplug again?? All the best, Gary.

Apologies for my lack of contributions over the last 10 weeks - it has been somewhat manic, and I am only now finding time to catch up with assorted forums! C84RBD was originally used by McRae on the 1986 National Breakdown in right hand drive configuration. It was then converted to left hand drive for Billy Coleman to use on the Cork 20 Rally, but I also thought he'd used it on the Manx International Rally aswell - must check my files here Mark. Billy also used C869 EUD on the 1986 Shell Donegal Rally - as has been said. The original Rothmans rally car was sold to Tore Bratlie in Norway for use in rallycross - but without the VIN No and Reg No C84 RBD. I have photos of this car at the British Rallycross GP in Tore's livery - but it still has the Rothmans stripes over the roof and down the rear side windows! The VIN No and Reg No were then switched to another David Richards Autosport built car and sold to Brian Bell for rallying and then Aiden Creegan for rallycross. The latter crashed it heavily at the 1988 British Rallycross GP, and the car was then rebuilt into a new bodyshell for him to continue in rallycross until 1991. That rallycross car - complete with VIN No and Reg No was then sold to a series of other rallycross drivers - Norman Kittle, John Haffey, John Moloney and then bringing it right up to date, Lawrence Gibson. There is however one more car that has worn the Reg No C84 RBD - the David Richards Autosport built left hand drive Clubman for Finnish privateer Mika Arpianen. This car famously got rolled into a ball on the 1986 1000 lakes Rally. I know it's not really about C869 EUD that this topic started about, but then I didn't bring up the topic of C84 RBD now did I? Trust that has been of interest.
