ECU glitch/ Spring rates for a metro
Just wondering what the spring rates are used by current competitors in Metros, Ive currently got a soft set for wet bumpy lanes, but looking for something stiffer for summer airfields.

Spring Rates
Hi Roger, The Sping Rates need to be calculated individually for each car based on the corner weights, wheel base, natural frequency and the desired speed for optimum balance. Your car with the longer wheel base will be different to a normal 6r4. Hope this helps Cheers Ian

Ian, If only there was a man with some swanky corner scales and a whizzo computer program that could work all that out  Any ideas who that could be ?  You ! Ha Ha. Garreth

Nice reply Garreth I get a few people that email me looking for a decent prep company with their Metros or people looking for parts and with Ian's level of commitment to the Metro 6R4 I am pointing them in his direction at 6r4.com Ians buiness seems to be the one stop shop for 6R4 parts and this can only become bigger when not only competiton owners but road car owners such as Garreth and all give Ian business which benefits the running of their cars for a long long time

Just to check out what ive got fitted, If I remove the springs, and put them in a bearing hydraulic press, squash down an inch and then look at the guage to see what pressure was needed to achive that result, would that give any usefull info?

6r4.com- 07-05-2007

Hi Roger, This would only work if, the area of the bore, of the hydraulic ram was 1"sq and your gauge is working in lb/sqin (psi). Alternativley, if you can work out the area of the hydraulic ram you could convert it back. If you wanted to ship the springs to us, we can offer a spring rate check at £10/spring. Hope this helps Cheers Ian

Cars at Owen developments at the mo, took it for rolling road check over on friday to find missfire fault, obviously didn't appear and ran a clean 350bhp. looks like its time for buying Motec 600 with datalogging to see if that can trace whats breaking down. I think it might be tricky getting the springs off over external reservoirs, but will have a go. Ian, Thanks for info, btw does it need double the force for 2" of squash

6r4.com- 07-09-2007

Hi Roger, You will probably have to split the inserts and bodies to remove the springs. The force will double for 2" of compression if they are linear rate springs. Misfire fault seems a strange one!! Is it wet/dry or cold air/hot air related or both ? Cheers Ian

RogerRally- 07-09-2007

any cold /wet event car runs fine, but halfway round warm/ dry, total cut out for a fraction of a second, at about 5- 7k after coming out of bend. have changed everything, miracule cure every time, untill halfway through next event again!. Have run out of CoDrivers offering to chip in with entry fees, so it might be back to rallycross again!

Bizarre ... Rallycross could be exciting trying to drive around the misfire !!!
