Interesting 6R4-based thingy on Ebay Apologies if it's been mentioned elsewhere but there is a rather interesting car for sale on Ebay at the mo. I'm hopeless at posting links to the actual item, but if you search for "6r4" and keep scrolling down, you'll see it. The title is summat like "6R4 supercar with V8 engine and rear wheel drive"
Does anyone know any more about this car? I'm trying to arrange to view it so I can try to assess just what work/bits will be required to put it back to standard. The rear subframe/chassis crossmember looks to have been modified to accomodate the Renault gearbox but I could be wrong.
All the best,
Gary :)

Im sure Mark Lowe will be able to tell you abit more on the ted toleman issue but from what i can see it looks ok. Needs a little tlc in places and needs to get a couple of things lost off it but the main thing to be honest is that it runs and is still in good working order.
When you say get it back to standard do oyu want to put a v64v engine in? If you do its going to cost alot of money. Personally would be better off going the jag v6 route as the engine parts will be alot easier to get hold of rather than the v64v and the cost should be quite cheaper i would have thought.
All the best in your viewing though Gary, If you could take some more pics of it for hte forum it owuld be appreciated :)

The car itself was a -*test*-('") hack as Ted had Two Metros and this did run the V8 3.9 motor he had for the Paris Dakar car while the Raid car was built.
An interesting thing here in that the reg number went onto the Raid car then for 89 when the TG88 Metro Raider was turned into the T89 Enduro designed by Reynards it carried the same reg number on the T89 which is now owned by Belgian driver Jacky Loomans and it still has this number on the car so be careful if you do buy it as you might have to change the number plate.
I did see that car for a different price advertised years ago so if you want to know the price I saw it at then pm me.
Worth buying I would say and Ian Rowlance of 6R4.com or the other Metro 6r4 prep companies that are on my site hompage depending where you live would be able to carry out the updates on the car.
Like Nicky says about the engine if you have the money then opt for one of 6R4.COM's Jag V6 units as the V64V can be more expensive if you buy on its own
I know there will be bidders on there wanting it to put another engine in it or even break it up for parts as the shell will be worth 5k upwards on its own
Hope this helps

Many thanks for the info and advice guys...you're amazing!
It's strange how things work out, isn't it? After my optimism at perhaps being able to buy a Metro around Christmas time, the trail went cold on my preferred car and I just presumed the car was no longer for sale. Since then,my good lady and I have spent a large chunk of my "Metro fund" on home improvements etc and I tried to put 6R4's out of my mind (impossible of course!). So what should happen on the very day I e-mail the Ebay car's owner to try to arrange a viewing? Yup,my original target car's owner rings up to see if I'm still interested!
I've no idea how much the reserve has been set at for the ex-Toleman car and I find it very hard to put a value on. I want to be sure that no material modification has been done to the shell when converting to RWD as the current V8 seems to be mounted extremely far forward to allow the gearbox to fit within the standard wheelbase. Only a real good crawl around the car will satisfy my concerns, although not being a 6R4 expert,I'm not really sure what I'm looking for!
The other offer I have is very interesting and has plenty of options, ranging from a full Clubman car in bits that is pretty much ready to reassemble,to the purchase of the mechanical bits only which would hopefully convert the Ebay car back to proper 6R4 spec. Perhaps a mix and match purchase is on the cards? But everything depends on the asking price for both cars and whether a deal can be struck,so I'm not gonna get my hopes up too much this time! How I wish I had the funds to just go out and buy one of the sorted cars currently on the market...
Thanks again for the Toleman car history,Mark, and especially the number plate mystery. That's something which needs investigation.
Have fun everyone,
Gary.

Regarding reg number Jacky Loomans may of reregistered it with a Belgian plate but still keep the original number on it for shows etc
But yes find out about that.
I cant see much modifacation being done to the shell but its nothing that cannot be put right to take whatever engine you want in it.
Like I said if you do buy and would like a more modern engine then speak to Ian Rowlance at 6r4.com

Hi Mark,
Do you know if this sold at all?
I saw bidding stopped at 8500 and it was reserve not met.. just wondered if you'd heard whether they had sold it after that...
3.9 v8 rear wheel drive that sounds like fun to me!! My last toy was a 250bhp Westfield... and that was serious tail happy fun!
RogerRally- 04-08-2007
The guy who bought it keeps ring up Tal and asking for bits to bring it up to the standard of a £25k clubmans car, hes seen the other thread that says cars are only worth £18k, thus he feels he only needs to spend another £5k on an engine, gearbox, front diff etc, to restore back to as new glory.
Impsport Dan- 04-08-2007
it that possible on a 5k budget/? I seriously doubt it myself but I'm only assuming that from the money that the clubman cars usually have spent on them
garreth- 04-09-2007
V64V engine, box, front diff and all the work to fit it for 5K ?
He must know something we don't

Now in its new home

Thanks for sharing the pic Mark, has the owner told you the plans they have for it?
I personally would like to see it kept rwd with the v8 for something different. Just get the bodywork sorted and freshend up and you have a great fun car for track or road :D
Metro 6R4 Online News- 04-14-2007
Plans to have it running in rwd for now but eventually to have it 4wd again.
I have mentioned to a friend of the owner to go Jag V6 rather than buy a V64V engine
