After having had the night to sleep on it I now realise that my reaction to yesterdays Concourse farce - sorry result, was rather childish and ungracious of me. Like Arsene Wenger I am a big enough man to admit when I am wrong and would like to issue the following public statement - "To all present at yesterdays Rallye Sunseeker I would like to apologise unreservedly for my infantile behaviour. Imagine my surprise when rather than asking my ex-friend and engineer to Mr Ian Rowlance to present me with my trophy, they decided for reasons unknown to give it to him instead. I would like to put on public record that I bear no malice against the pie eating git, and wish him all the best. The moral of this story would appear to be that if you rub hard enough (but not hard enough to knock the front bib off  ) you can indeed polish a turd." Garreth

Was a really great day all round. Weather kept off all day - wouldn't have been half as much fun in the pi***ng rain. Nice to see so many cars in one place - and to catch up with people. Nice to see Nicky and Gary made it EVENTUALLY - that was a leisurely breakfast boys !!! Spoke to various owners and enthusiasts including Dave Dixon of the performance metro club - a really nice and knowledgeable bloke. Also great to meet Gerard before he dies in a huge fireball after piling his 3.8 litre Rallycross monster into a tree at 150mph the first time he takes it out   Roll on Chatsworth ! PS Congratulations to Ian Rowlance for winning the "Tighest Race Suit" competition. This backfired later on when he couldn't oggle the Lap Dancers at close quarters as he had no room for expansion  Garreth

Well, that's the hire car returned to the airport and that brings to a close a hectic but fantastic weekend! To be quite honest,I wasn't looking forward to the 550+ mile return journey as I'm not a very good traveller - I get awfully bored with motorway driving and usually try to avoid it like the plague, but this journey was different. The prospect of seeing so many 6R4s in one place made the first phase of my journey - Leeds to Birmingham - a much more bearable one and once I'd picked Nicky up,the second stage of the journey to Bournemouth seemed to pass in about 20 mins,as we nattered away about all things 6R4! Friday evening was a bit of a disappointment, with the 6R4 demonstration runs getting cut short because of the unfortunate accident with the spectator but Saturday was a different kettle of fish altogether. As Garreth has pointed out  ,Nicky and I enjoyed a leisurely breakfast before joining the traffic queues heading for Somerley Park but for us,the day's excitement was already underway! We passed Bernard Daly's Rothmans Metro and Stuart Larbey's Computervision 6R4 en-route to the showground, and stumbled upon Mssrs. Humphries,Rowlance etc as soon as we entered the parking area. A quick minibus ride to the main exhibition area presented a simply awesome sight - about 20 magnificent Metros in an orderly line, with numerous fans clamouring for a close-up view of these iconic cars. It was great to meet and chat to so many enthusiasts and owners during the course of the day - I was honestly losing my voice a bit by the time I got home at just after midnight. Rides in Garreth's and Ian's 6R4s just blew my mind and now I really can't wait for my Metro to arrive. The noise, the smell, the whole experience was simply breathtaking and that was without any actual high-speed action! Meeting John Davenport was an undoubted highpoint, and it was fascinating to be part of a 3-way conversation with JD,Brian Colin and myself. At times,I felt like a bit of an intruder, listening in on some intriguing private company discussions but it soon became clear that both former ARG men were simply enjoying the opportunity to reminisce about their experiences during the Metro project, recalling the names of previously-long forgotten colleagues. Both Brian and John are fabulous guys who are more than happy to talk about their involvement over 23 years ago,and I look forward to meeting them both again at Chatsworth in June. Thanks for sharing a super weekend with me,Nicky...and roll on June!!! Best wishes to all, Gary :)

Another quality pair of write ups from Garreth and Gary - well done chaps, and glad you both enjoyed the weekend. Roll on Chatsworth indeed.

GaryH- 02-25-2008

Thanks Captain! I really wish you could have been there, too, but it'll make Chatsworth even more special! I look forward to meeting you there. As for the Sunseeker weekend, there's lots more to tell but it's all still a bit of a blurr at the moment. It really was one of those shows where no matter how long you spent wandering around the cars, making new aquaintances,it just wasn't long enough. I wish I'd been able to chat to Dave Dixon,John Manklow and indeed all the other owners with cars on display who I didn't get chance to meet up with. I also regret not taking my camera when I dashed back to the showground to pick up some extra programmes, just before we were due to set off home,as there was a big crowd gathering in the funfair area, all clicking away with cameras at some hidden spectacle. "What could it be?" I thought as I sprinted over to join the enthusiastic crowd. It certainly had to be something extra-special to provoke such interest. Could it be a late arrival to the show in an ultra-rare 6R4? Had Jimmy McRae turned up after all? Nope. The excitement was due to the appearance of about a dozen shapely and scantily-clad lapdancers and VK promo girls, giggling and jiggling atop the bouncy slide! Appalled and disappointed,I watched for no more than 20 minutes before heading back to the car park. Oh,and Nicky managed to get himself locked in a 6R4 (or,as I suspect, locked himself in a 6R4! :P )...but that's another story. All the best, Gary :)

Oh,and Nicky managed to get himself locked in a 6R4 (or,as I suspect, locked himself in a 6R4! :P )...but that's another story. :) Errrrrr - that was my fault ! I jumped out to move my trailer and left the Metro running. I went back about 10 mins later and Nicky was still in it ! The ham fisted bugger had broken the door handle  He didn't look entirely unhappy to be fair. Garreth
