New to the Forum - Hi!!
Hi i am new to the forum. Found Nicky's videos on U Tube and decided to get in touch. I worked with Dave Appleby & Tony Pond for around 5 years - both in Lower Seagry & Malmesbury. It's been great visiting all the links and reading about the enthusiasm that still exists for for such a fantastic legend of a car. I dearly miss working on them and would really like to become a part of this forum. I guess i miss all the people connected with the sport and all the people i used to know also,. and of course the late great Tony Pond. A fantastic rally driver and one of the the very best of british drivers, in my eyes, of all time. And who was of course a fantastic boss. I havent really got any questions to ask at this time but just enjoy reading all the links/questions ect. Will be great to talk to you all!!

Hi there, and welcome to the 6R4.net forum. I welcomed you in the Welcome section of the forum earlier this morning, but there's no problem continuing the welcome here now that you've started a thread. I guess you were involved with all the initial work on the TPR 4-100, Metro GTi and Rover 220 GTi Challenge cars then? You might have even been there when Tony tackled the Isle of Man TT course in the Rover 800? I couldn't agree more with you about Tony on the driving and personality side of things, although I never got the opportunity to work for him I must admit! One of the all time greats, and sadly missed by a lot of people. I look forward to your input.

Hi Captain, Yes i was with Dave Appleby from 1989-1993. from DAM through to TPR back to DAM. We did alot of rallying with the 6R4's, racing with a 6R4 at coombe (mainly) and also did the development work for the Rover Metro 1400 GTI challenge and the 216 Challenge and also some development work on the 220 for the BTC. We also prepared the vehicle for the isle of man challenge for TP - alot of -*test*-('")ing carried out at gaydon,. and a few rides around the main proving ground in the 216 GTI , which went down very very well indeed... So what level of involvement has everybody got? how prevelant is the 6R4 now in rallying? are there any DAM4100's left?

Thanks for the added detail 'EX'. It must have been very exciting working for what was basically an offshoot of Rover Sport, even more so with TP's involvement. I must say from a personal point of view, I have been very involved with the 6R4 over the years. You may have even seen the 6R4news 'comic' I used to produce? I've also been a keen spectator over the years and have also tried to keep a history of each car built. I certainly recall one meeting at Combe when David, Sam (Nelson) and Rob (Dennis) were all taking on Brian Chatfield in the Special GT race. I'll dig out some photos to remind you of the days if that would be of interest? Kind regards, David

Hello exdamemployee welcome to the forum :D We hope you enjoy it here. I used to help out whenever I could at TAL Motorsport, who took the 6R4 side of DAM. I helped out when they was based in redditch. Apart from that, my involvement with the 6R4 is purely as an enthusiast and want to one day own one of the machines. I have also made an incar camera system to work in 6R4's which not many people have done. The 6R4 is still a major force ot be reckonned with on tarmac rallies. Forest events the car struggles abit more due to none of the electronic aids that the new crop of wrc adn group n cars have. But they can still be competitive if driven on the limit. As for DAM 4100's. We have a member on here Roger Binyon that rallies one. Ill see if i have some pics i took from the North West stages last year and post them up. Nice to see one of them about competing.

Metro 6R4 Online News- 01-17-2008

My involvement was I'm a mad fan of the car and then helped out with rebuilding one for a local guy Now I run Metro 6R4 Online News site as a bit of interest for me and hopefully fans and drivers of the car

Yes dave, some photos would be great!! And yes i remember some of the events we competed in at coombe. We also ran the XJR11 that dave bought from TW. Which dave sprayed ferrari yellow ..... I have many memories of many rallies - all good times. Does anyone know if Dave A competes any more? ive lost touch completely with him. Do you know anyone who used to work with dave? I guess dave you have the history on the 87 RAC car of TP. that was lovingly restored by moi!!

Thats what I have put the incar camera in which is now owned by Ali Serpen who is a massive 6R4 collector, he even has an original austin rover motorsport jacket that are extremely rare to find. My first time in a pukka 6R4 on a circuit/stage adn it was one of the best experiences of my life! Still cant thank Ali enough for letting me be in the passenger seat :D

Captain Chaos- 01-17-2008

You'll more than likely be referring to the 1985 RAC Rally entry 'EX' - C869 EUD restored for Tony Pond around the time you were at TPR I believe? Mrs Pond still owns the car apparently. Dave ran the Aston Martin rally car on this year's Jersey Rally as course car, but I suppose his most recent victory would have been the 1996 Tour of Cornwall. He was trying to develop a four wheel drive Renault Clio V6 - almost a 6R4 successor - until the RACMSA said it wouldn't be allowed to run! Somebody's still using it on rallies in two wheel drive form.

6r4nicky- 01-17-2008

but I suppose his most recent victory would have been the 1996 Tour of Cornwall.quote> It was 2006 I think as Chris Dillows usual co-driver was co-driving on that day for David

Captain Chaos- 01-17-2008

Why did I put 1996 when I knew it was 2006, sorry all for the **** up! The forums gone funny again Nicky?

C869 EUD - yes that sounds familiar!! please accept appologies,.,. has been long time. 2006 tour of cornwall? hhmm bad memories of that event. Anyone recal Stephen Price having a complete engine change on the day before the event, then going out after a few stages?!!! That was a very long way home & back again and a very long night spent with my old mate Adrian Bennett - complete engine change in around 3-4 hours then drive back to Newquay from lower Seagry and followed by a full day servicing... Now thats rallying!!! Does anyomne know of any local owners/builders in the Wiltshire area??
