Took my 6R for a blast... Thought I'd blow out the Boxing Day cobwebs in my little Metro this afternoon - it's been a while.
The lump was making 440bhp last time it went on the dyno. I remember it wheezing and coughing with almost a full set of knackered cams and followers and being asked by my engine builder what I wanted from the engine as it was to be retired from rallycross for road use. 'Just put it back as it was,' I declared.
I've crashed the car three times - nothing serious - I just keep knocking corners off and having to stick on an upright and a pair of wishbones, and always for the same reason.
If the little monster tries to get sideways there's only one cure. Nail the throttle to pin the back end down then drive out of trouble at terrifying speed. Not an instinctive thing to do on the road.
So after deafening myself, rattling my head and almost being gassed by oil and such burning off the long-dormant engine - to say nothing of the effect on my underpants - I left the old bitch cooling slowly back in the garage.
But what a buzz!

Hi Bill,
It's David Sims here (ex-6R4news) and I hope you're keeping well? I was so please to hear that you still own your ex-rallycross 6R4, and how nice it looked from the photos Nicky posted on here on your behalf.
Wishing you a Happy New Year!

I still have my copies of 6R4 news tucked away somewhere. Good to see some of the old faces still around.
