wheel settings/handling problems HI. i am new to this forum.
I have competed for 24 yrs. 2yrs ago i finished building my 6r4 replica (all my own work). Full space frame, all fibreglass shell, and yes it is 4 wheel drive, i run with a BMW M3 engine in the back.
My problem is that when i am pulling 80 mph plus on gravel tracks the car is very loose/unstable, fishtailes very easily.
The car is built square, level and true, had it on a lazer 4 wheel alignment jig, thrust angle is zero.
I have tried different settings on toe, camber, caster, and improved things to a point but cant cure the problem completley.
I was wondering what you lads run as far as these settings and do you have this same problem, Is it an inbuilt problem because they are so short on the wheel base. Mine is 96" wheelbase and 69" track.
any help would be appreciated, thanks

I get sent pics all the time with me doing my 6R4 site

Thank you,
You still did well to guess tho, could have been a copy anywhere, tho i think a lot of them never get finished so consequently never see the light of day. or are a realy bad job.
ive gone to a lot of trouble to recreate a 6r4 as far as practicaly possible,
unless your an excpert you wouldnt know its a copy
its my own mold for the main shell, front wings and roof scoop.
i will be fittiing a sequential box in a few weeks and i am hoping it will make a big differance.
The first event this season is at the same place as that photo was taken, on the 12/13 april.

I still would appreciate the info to my first question, if pos that is.
Or is that sort of info a secret between you guys, I have heard the rally world is a bit secretive to one another,
Just asking, thats all.
Metro 6R4 Online News- 02-24-2008
Does this happen on all events ie different terrain etc
Could be power (whats it got) what diffs do you run, gearing etc
rogue- 02-24-2008
Hi.
it happens on all cat 1 tracks at 70/80 mph upwards.
i am running BMW LSD diffs front and back with a locked 50/50 split transfer box.
power is 250 bhp at the wheels according to rolling rd

I'd suggest talking to Ian Rowlance at www.6r4.com
I think the reason the rally world gets a little secrative about settings is that some people spend alot of money on getting their car setup and to put it on a forum so every owner can ty it without spending a penny wouldnt be fair.
Although I'm sure if you pm an onwer they will probably tell you but not let it out on the forum if you know what I mean.
Give Ian a call :)
rogue- 02-24-2008
Thank you, i will do that.
I understand the secrecy bit, but in our sport we all tell each other everything, sometimes before they ask, and its not uncommon to lend parts to a rival on race day so they can keep on running, even if they are beating you. tyres, shockers. power steering pumps, even turbos.
thanks for the advice, and i will keep calling on this site if you dont mind.
6r4nicky- 02-24-2008
Of course you can keep calling on this site. Any type of 6R4 is caterd for on here :)
Infact it would be nice to see the car on the 6R4.NET display at the rally show 2008, chatsworth house. more info is in the show section of the forum.
Would you mind uploading some pics of your car for us all to see? Sounds like an interesting car you have got.
rogue- 02-24-2008
I went that show in 2006 (i think) was very good.
i will try to put some pics on for you, although i aint very good on the comp. You will notice i dont run a front spoiler, (i have it, painted to match) just couldnt run it on our events as it wouldnt last 2 min.
we might do a 10 mile stage, 8 mile could be on cat 1 tracks, 2 mle on rough fire breaks.
i have 12" of travel on the front and 10" on the rear (dont know what a real 6r4 has).
6r4nicky- 02-24-2008
Rogue if you want to email the pics to nicky6r4@hotmail.com I will upload them for you.
The rally show at chatsworth was on in 2007 which was the events first year. There was a bowler wildcat doing stage demo runs and it sounded very nice with the big v8.
